DOCK TALKS is an innovative educational program for kids ages 9-11 piloting at the South Carolina Aquarium in spring 2025. The program embeds vital in-person communication skills within engaging environmental content and is innovative in the following ways:

  • Real-World Applications: Dock Talks prepares kids to navigate diverse social situations while addressing global environmental challenges.
  • Dual-Purpose Design: The program is both a personal development initiative and a call for environmental action. • Bridging Generations: By involving senior community members and researchers, Dock Talks fosters rich dialogue for all.
  • New Map of Life Alignment: Dock Talks directly supports Stanford’s New Map of Life goals by promoting curiosity, resilience, and self-efficacy—key skills for thriving across extended lifespans. By integrating communication skills and environmental stewardship early, Dock Talks empowers children to contribute meaningfully throughout their lives.
