SPOTLIGHT ON SEDENTARY BEHAVIOR

Sedentary behavior, or sitting for 5 or more hours per day, increased for all age groups from 2007 to 2011. Though exercise has also increased for many groups, sedentary behavior acts independently of physical activity in terms of health; something that can be seen in the increased incidence of overweight Americans. As many jobs and leisurely activities require limited exertion, it is important to be aware of just how much time you spend sitting, and how that could negatively impact your health.
