Ryan Moore

Discipline: Communications
Project: Protecting against fraud and misinformation through technology
Advisor: Laura Carstensen

Ryan’s research focuses on older adults’ digital media use. He is interested in identifying how older adults can effectively use digital media and technology to pursue their goals, as well as understanding ways to help older adults build resilience to online threats such as mis/disinformation and scams. His other research explores how people encounter, process, and engage with (problematic) information online. His work leverages a variety of methods, including large-scale digital trace data, online and lab experiments, surveys, content analysis, and computational linguistics. Upon completing his fellowship year, in which Ryan will work on developing technology-based strategies to deal with misinformation and protect against fraud in an age-diverse world, he will join the School of Information at the University of Texas at Austin as an assistant professor in the fall of 2025.
