Ranch Capital is a private equity firm Mr. Hershfield founded in 2002. Ranch invests in “special situations,” including bankruptcies and distressed assets or companies. Ranch also has a real estate business focused on land transactions in California. Ranch has committed over $1.5 billion since its inception, with partners including Berkshire Hathaway, Leucadia National Corporation, and the Royal Bank of Scotland. Mr. Hershfield serves as chairman of Hawaiian Holdings, the parent company of Hawaiian Airlines and also serves as chairman of Premier Entertainment Biloxi, which owns the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi. Previously, he spent 17 years working for Leucadia. From 1995 through 1998, Mr. Hershfield and his family lived in Moscow, Russia, where he oversaw Leucadia’s investments and was CEO of Pepsi International Bottlers. Mr. Hershfield and his wife, Tammy, are co-founders of “Computers 2 San Diego Kids,” a non-profit organization that collects used computers from corporations, refurbishes them, and distributes them to low-income families. Since its founding in 2005, C2SDK has donated over 10,000 computers to needy children in San Diego County. Mr. Hershfield previously served as a trustee of the Stanford Graduate School of Business Trust. He has a BS in Biology from Bucknell University and an MBA from Stanford University Graduate School of Business (1981). He is married with three children and lives in Rancho Santa Fe, California.
