New Map of Life Postdoctoral Fellowship Application

Transforming the Future of Longevity: Bridging Research and Real-World Impact
The Stanford Center on Longevity (SCL) is an impact-oriented research center leading the Stanford academic community in efforts to understand multiple factors affecting individual and societal well-being in the age of long lives. Guided by the principles of the New Map of Life, we advance a research-driven agenda that explores opportunities and challenges created by increased longevity to identify actionable, evidence-based steps to address them.

Fellowship Program
New Map of Life (NMOL) Postdoctoral Fellows are mentored by Stanford faculty throughout two-year fellowships. Fellows conduct research in their fields of expertise while also participating in a weekly seminar and occasional workshops and events sponsored by the NMOL program.  Because fellows come from all seven schools at Stanford, they naturally create a multi-disciplinary community of longevity scholars united by an interest in longevity. Fellows are expected to disseminate their findings to the academic community and the general public, provide written reports of their progress, and attend SCL events that expand their professional networks.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Interest in longevity along with a commitment from a Stanford faculty member to supervise their research
  • Exceptional quantitative and/or qualitative research skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Deep interest in and commitment to capitalizing on the potential embedded in long lives for individuals and communities.

Education and Experience:

  • A PhD or equivalent degree.
  • Established record of conducting and publishing original research.

Application
To apply for the fellowship program, you must hold a doctoral degree or be on course to complete your doctoral degree by the end of the current academic year (if you have special circumstances, please reach out to the SCL’s Director of Research prior to applying). First, identify and connect with Stanford Faculty in your field of study who are willing and able to host you in their lab/department and serve as your postdoctoral advisors. Next, fill out the application form below. You will be prompted to upload a short (1-2 pages) personal statement detailing your interest in the field longevity, related research you have undertaken, specific research ideas you have discussed with your potential advisor(s), and your future plans following the fellowship. You will be asked to upload proof of your education credentials as well as a letter of support signed by your potential advisor(s)- you may use the provided template.

We will look at applications on a rolling basis and finalize the incoming cohort by mid-April to early May. Therefore, applications received early have higher odds of being accepted. That said, it is more important to have established a relationship with a potential advisor(s) and a well-thought-out research idea.
