Julie Kim
Discipline: Health Policy
Project: Medical innovation & disparities
Advisor: Joshua Salomon

Julie is a statistical demographer and population health scientist with a PhD in health metrics sciences from the University of Washington, where she trained at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME). During her doctoral work she developed Bayesian methods for estimating fertility, mortality, and migration across smaller populations harmonizing survey and administrative data, and time-series forecasting methods for the Global Burden of Disease studies.
As a postdoctoral fellow in Stanford Health Policy and a New Map of Life Fellow at the Stanford Center on Longevity, Julie is working on a project to identify which components of age-related disease burden are most amenable to technological innovation. Working with Professor Joshua Salomon, she maps where innovation is occurring along the care cascades for cancer, Alzheimer’s and other diseases to estimate healthspan gains under realistic technology adoption scenarios, and examines how unequal access to those innovations will interact with existing disparities by geography, education, and race-ethnicity.
