Bernardo Mackenna is a sociologist and computational social scientist that studies the ways in which resources and information are distributed in society through interpersonal and institutional interactions. His research connects social stratification, social psychology, and social networks using surveys, experiments, and computational approaches to understand the mechanisms that link personal experiences throughout the life course to individual well-being, community engagement, and social cohesion. He received his Ph.D. in Sociology and Computational Social Science from the University of California, San Diego.

As a New Map of Life Fellow, Bernardo is working with Profs. Mitchell Stevens and David Rehkopf on understanding the life course trajectories that shape people’s well-being, with an emphasis on and identifying the multiple transitions that lead to better lives. In particular, this project integrates multiple longitudinal data sources to explore how learning throughout the life course can contribute to the challenges and opportunities related to longevity.
