Sharon, originally from Los Angeles, graduated from UCSB in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s in education. She was a high school science teacher in the Bay Area for five years, then made a career change into health journalism. She earned her second master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University in 2004 and has been a science writer and editor for more than 10 years. She has worked on the editorial staff at UCSF and Palo Alto University and was the editor-in-chief of Keck MD magazine, produced by USC Keck Medicine.
In 2020, Sharon overcame breast cancer, wrote a book about how mindfulness supported her mental health, and started the non-profit organization Meditation for Breast Cancer. The book, The LOVEE Method, was featured on Good Morning America and became a bestseller. Given her experience, Sharon is passionate about the intersection of science and spirituality and the education of research-backed lifestyle choices to improve overall health and well-being.
