With a career focused on health care for older adults, Elizabeth Halifax has held leadership positions in hospital administration in the UK, nursing homes in the USA, and as a Research Specialist at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), where she is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Physiological Nursing. She has taught and mentored graduate and pre-licensure nursing students at California State University.

Dr. Halifax received a BA (with honors) in Economic and Social History from the University of York, UK, qualified as a registered nurse in London, England and has a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Studies from The Metropolitan University, London. She graduated with her PhD from UCSF in 2013.

Dr. Halifax has specialized in qualitative research and her interests are focused on end of life and nursing home care, including palliative care access in nursing homes, understanding pain in people with dementia, the role of assistive personnel, and safe staffing levels in Nursing Homes. She is a Training Consultant for the San Francisco Long Term care Ombudsman Program.

Currently, Dr. Halifax serves on the Long Term Care Geriatric Advisory Circle for California’s Departments of Aging, Public Health and Social Services. Other community activities include serving as a board member for National Consumer Voice for Quality Long Term Care (October 2018 – current) an organization that provides national education, advocacy and policy analysis for long-term care residents; as a board member for University of York in America (May 2019 – current) an organization for US alumni of the University of York that promotes cultural, educational and work exchange for students; and as a trustee for the San Francisco Waldorf Schools (2012-2019). Elizabeth volunteers as a long term care Ombudsman in San Francisco.
