Humane & Sustainable Food Lab, Quantitative Sciences Unit

Jessica Hope earned her undergraduate degree at Princeton University, where she dipped her toe into the field of public health as an eating disorders peer educator. She then worked for the Population Council on mifepristone acceptability, and for Princeton’s Office of Population Research on spreading awareness of the ability to use ordinary oral contraceptives as emergency contraception, in part through the Emergency Contraception Hotline. In 2000, she completed her master’s at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing, where she specialized in women’s health. She was the head nurse for the abortion clinic at Planned Parenthood in San Mateo, a breastfeeding peer educator for Nursing Mothers Counsel, and a member of the board of Helping After Neonatal Death (HAND) of the Peninsula.

A 15 year advocate of plant-based diets, Jessica conducted clinical research in nutrition at the Stanford Prevention Research Center and in the Division of Immunology & Rheumatology. She now staffs the brand new Humane & Sustainable Food Lab in the Quantitative Sciences Unit of the Department of Medicine. She also serves as the program officer of the Psychedelic & Entheogen Academic Council staff group for the University of California San Francisco. Jessica intends to sit for the American College of Lifestyle Medicine’s certification exam this fall.
