Kvaal leads the Department&#8217;s work on higher education, student financial aid, and career and adult education. Earlier in his career, Kvaal served in the White House under President Clinton and President Obama, including more than three years as deputy domestic policy adviser to President Obama. She directs projects focused on strengthening rule of law addressing corporate security and geopolitical risks. Melissa joined the Foundation in August 2023 after serving as a science teacher and director with Teach for America. Before co-founding <em>Inside Higher Ed<\/em>, he served in a variety of roles at <em>The Chronicle of Higher Education<\/em> from 1986 to 2003, including as managing editor. He began his career as a news clerk at <em>The New York Times<\/em>. This study aims to understand the factors that influence talent management decisions and how emerging AI technology impacts these choices. Outside of his academic studies, he has spent over ten years managing teams within multiple Fortune 50 companies, including Amazon, Microsoft and Target.
