Charles Prober

Founding Executive Director, Stanford Center of Health Education

Charles Prober, MD is the Founding Executive Director of the Stanford Center for Health Education and Senior Associate Vice Provost for Health Education at Stanford University. He is a Professor of Pediatrics, Microbiology and Immunology. Prober’s laboratory research, supported by the NIH, focused on the biology of herpes simplex virus and his translational research is broadly based on infections in children. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed subspecialty, specialty, and general medical journals and he is editor of Principles and Practice of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, one of the major textbooks in the field of pediatric infectious diseases. He has been involved in medical education throughout his career and directed a number of undergraduate and graduate student courses, served as Associate Chair for Education for the Department of Pediatrics, and as Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education at Stanford, responsible for undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate medical education from 2007 to 2017.
