Tom is a Senior R&D Engineer of Emerging Technologies at Presidio Medical in South San Francisco, where he is working to identify new applications for the company’s neuromodulation platform. His interests lie at the intersection of engineering and healthcare to create devices for improving patient quality of life. He received his M.S. in Electrical Engineering and Ph.D in Applied Physics at Stanford University in 2018 and 2019. Working with Prof. Daniel Palanker, his graduate work aimed to improve an electronic stimulator for prosthetic vision to restore sight to patients blinded from age-related macular degeneration. He later completed an innovation fellowship at the Stanford Byers Center for Biodesign, where he was working to identify and solve unmet needswithin the field of Otolaryngology.
