3/5/2013 – Fear of Falling

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that one of every three adults older than 65 years will fall each year (Jong’s Isadora would be 69 this year), and in that demographic, falls are the leading cause of injury death.

For many seniors, the real risk and potential complications of falls can be exceeded by the morbid fear associated with going to ground. And it’s a circular problem — studies have shown the fear of falling actually increases the risk of falling.
