3/17/2016 – Drawing portraits of dying people in hospice taught this artist about living

Artist Claudia Bicen is interested in how death informs views on life. After volunteering at a hospice program last summer, she drew portraits of the patients and transcribed parts of their conversations on life and death. One of the portraits (pictured with her) is part of a show at National Portrait Gallery that opens this weekend, winners of an award for outstanding portrait artists.
