Stanford Center on Longevity Postdoctoral Fellowships
Application deadline: Tuesday, April 1, 2008 5:00 pm, PST
The Stanford Center on Longevity (SCL) will fund fellowships for three years of full-time research in interdisciplinary studies related to aging and longevity. In 2007, SCL awarded three fellowships and we expect to award three more fellowships in 2008. Our goal is to have nine scholars in the program on an ongoing basis.
General Eligibility Requirements can be found on the application. Link to fellowship application
Special requirements of the SCL fellowships:
-Each awardee must hold a current postdoctoral appointment within Stanford University.
-In addition to a primary mentor, each awardee must have a secondary mentor who is outside the field of the primary mentor who will contribute substantially to the training of the fellow in order to promote the interdisciplinary focus of the fellowship.
-The awardees will participate in the undergraduate course, "Longevity", and attend SCL-related activities, sponsored workshops and lectures .
The funding will support salary (plus benefits) in the amount of $50,000 per year. In addition, the fellowship will provide $1,000 per year for travel for the scholar to attend a relevant scientific meeting.
All applications will be reviewed by the award committee in April and it is expected that decisions will be made and applicants contacted about the awards by early June. The anticipated start date for the funding will be July 1, 2008.
The main considerations in the evaluation of the applications will be the scientific merit of the proposal, the relevance of the proposal to aging and longevity, the qualifications of the applicant, the research environment, and the description of the interdisciplinary nature of the research program.
